Design with Intention: A Fishbowl Discussion

As environmental and social pressures reshape the design landscape, how can we create spaces that are both beautiful and responsible?

As we launch NEWNEW for the Green Design Show 2025, created by Nexus Designs + Cultivated in partnership with Mark Tuckey and Crafted Hardwoods, we invite you to join us for a seminar to explore how can we create spaces that are both beautiful and responsible.

Presented in a fishbowl conversation format inspired by Indigenous knowledge systems, this lively and interactive session will invite deeper dialogue about how we source and specify products and materials, and how we approach the long-term life of the spaces we create.

We’ll explore how designers, makers, manufacturers and certifiers – with outcomes across both large-scale commercial buildings and highly detailed residential interiors – can work together to support more thoughtful, future-focused design practices, from product stewardship and takeback schemes to circularity, certification and design for longevity.

Hear from Josh Ellis from Cultivated – Design Eternal, Sonia Simpfendorfer and Sally Evans from Nexus Designs, John Gertsakis (sustainability and policy reform advocate), and Katherine Featherstone from the Green Building Council of Australia, with moderation by Alice Blackwood of AB Story Telling and Editorial Director at Artedomus.

Whether you are designing spaces, crafting materials, setting benchmarks or shaping policy, this is a chance to reflect on how our individual decisions contribute to a more collaborative and sustainable built environment.
